Danocrine/Danazol IS USED FOR:

Treating endometriosis, symptoms of fibrocystic breast disease, orgiant hives. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Danocrine/Danazol is a synthetic steroid. It works by decreasing the level of certain hormones, which reduces the symptoms and severity of the diseases treated by Danocrine/Danazol .

Thus it is primarily used to treat nausea and vomiting, and to facilitate gastric emptying in patients with gastric stasis.

DO NOT USE Danocrine/Danazol IF:

• you have undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
• you are pregnant or breast-feeding
• you have the blood disease porphyria or severely decreased liver, kidney, or heart function
• you are allergic to any ingredient in Danocrine/Danazol

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF Danocrine/Danazol :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Acne; changes in menstrual flow; changes in semen volume and sperm count; emotional problems; excessively oily skin; flushing; hair loss; nervousness; reduction in breast size; sweating; vaginal itching or dryness; voice changes (hoarseness, sore throat, change in pitch); weight gain.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); abnormal hair growth; arm or leg pain; breathing trouble; chest pain; dark urine; dizziness; fainting; headache; nausea; one-sided weakness; slurred speech; sore throat or fever; stomach pain; swelling; unusual bleeding or bruising; vision problems; vomiting; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION:

• Use Danocrine/Danazol with extreme caution in CHILDREN. Safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.
• PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: Do not use Danocrine/Danazol if you are pregnant. If you suspect that you could be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. Danocrine/Danazol is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Danocrine/Danazol.
• LAB TESTS, including liver function tests and complete blood cell counts, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
• Diabetes patients - Danocrine/Danazol may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.
• Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor.
• Danocrine/Danazol may cause dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Danocrine/Danazol. Using Danocrine/Danazol alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
• It may take several months for Danocrine/Danazol to work. Do not stop using Danocrine/Danazol without checking with your doctor.
• Use a barrier contraceptive (birth control), such as a condom or diaphragm, while taking Danocrine/Danazol.

BEFORE USING Danocrine/Danazol :

Some medical conditions may interact with Danocrine/Danazol. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

• if you are planning to become pregnant
• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
• if you have a history of blood clots or stroke, cancer, heart failure, heart disease, or liver or kidney problems
• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Danocrine/Danazol. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

• Anticoagulants (eg, Coumadin/warfarin), Epitol/carbamazepine, Sandimmune/cyclosporine, or macrolide immunosuppressants (eg, Prograf/tacrolimus) because the actions and side effects of these medicines may be increased

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Danocrine/Danazol may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

HOW TO USE Danocrine/Danazol :

Use Danocrine/Danazol as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

• If you are being treated for endometriosis or fibrocystic breast disease, you should begin treatment during menstruation.
• Danocrine/Danazol may be taken with or without food.
• Endometriosis patients - You must take Danocrine/Danazol consistently for 3 to 6 months. It may be necessary to take Danocrine/Danazol for 9 months.
• If you miss a dose of Danocrine/Danazol , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

What is the shelf life of the pills?

• The expiry date is mentioned on each blister. It is different for different batches. The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture and would differ from batch to batch depending on when they were manufactured.
